Dr. Colin Lewis

Dr. Colin J. Lewis is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Philosophy at UCCS where he has worked since 2017. He is a department representative for the Heller Faculty Committee and director of the Asian Studies Minor. He received his B.A. from Duke University (2009), M.Phil. from University of Hong Kong (2012), and Ph.D. from University of Utah (2017). He is the author of Confucian Ritual and Moral Education (Lexington 2020), co-author (with Jennifer Kling) of Contemporary Politics and Classical Chinese Thought: Toward Globalizing Political Philosophy (Oxford 2024), and has published in journals such as Dao, Asian Philosophy, Educational Philosophy and Theory, European Journal for Philosophy of Religion, and Journal of Military Ethics. His areas of specialization include Chinese and comparative philosophy, ethics with a focus on moral psychology, and philosophy of education. He also maintains interests in sociopolitical philosophy and the philosophies of cognitive and biological sciences. He is currently working on several projects examining potential applications of pre-Qin Confucian thought, particularly its emphasis on ritual, to modern and empirically informed accounts of moral education and human flourishing.
